The Ford Flex is a full-sized crossover sport utility vehicle produced by Ford Motor Company. It was first introduced in 2008 as 2009 model. The concept model was unveiled in 2005 at North American International Auto Show, while the production model hit the market in 2008. It filled the gap left by Ford Freestar minivan. The Flex model is sold in Middle East, Canada and in United States.
First Generation (2008-Present)
The full-size crossover, Ford Flex is offered in single body style, five-door station wagon and it is offered in either all wheel drive or in front wheel drive. It is designed and produced on the platform of Ford D4.
The standard engine to the current generation Ford Flex is 3.5 liter Duratec V6 version that delivers power up to 262 hp at 6250 rpm and torque of 248 lb ft at 4500 rpm. The only transmission available to the engine includes 6-speed automatic. With the V6 engine, the Flex model can achieve fuel economy of 16 miles per gallon in the city premises and 22 miles per gallon on the highway roads.
As far as the exterior dimensions of the Ford Flex model are concerned, it has the wheel base of 117.9 inches, length of 201.8 inches, width of 80.1 inches and height of 68 inches. The current generation Ford Flex model is related to Lincoln MKT, Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS and Mercury Sable. The Ford Flex model is designed by Richard Gresens.
